Three Team Race?

When You're Here, You're F...There are a lot of annoying things in the world: Overweight comedians who only make jokes about their weight. Guys from the Midwest who end their emails with “Cheers.” Olive Garden commercials. Some things are annoying but serve a purpose, like weekly street sweepings or the 7th inning cut off on beer sales at the ballgame. Sure they suck, but these things exist for a reason.

Then there are the Saint Louis Cardinals. Man I hate the Cardinals. Don’t get me wrong, at the end of the day I’ll take a Cards fan over a Sox fan in a heartbeat, they tend to keep their trailers nicer and they’re more likely to wear shirts in public. But as discussed in our latest cast, the fact that the Cardinals are only 6 games back has put a very slight damper on the Cubs surge to the top of the NL Central for me. I know that they are weakened by injuries, and that they really shouldn’t compete with the Cubs and the Brewers down the stretch, but still, they’re the Cardinals. They are everything that is wrong in this world in baseball team form. They are the Darfur of the NL Central. It would be just like them to ruin our lives again this year somehow, wouldn’t it?

Red Sox Winning the 2005 World Series

But there is one good thing about the Cardinals potentially getting back into the race- the weekend series against them August 17th-20th at Wrigley. Suddenly this could potentially be a very exciting series, and one more opportunity to pound another nail into their coffin. That series also happens to be taking place during the weekend of our Cubscast Listener Appreciation Party, for more on that, please check out the details below. We really do hope for a great turnout. Let’s silence those STL standing ovations once and for all, and let’s do it together.
