Now Accepting Nominations for the “Best Cubs Website Awards” Presented by Cubscast
UPDATE 2/18: Nominations are now closed. We’ll announce the winners on Monday Feb 25th’s episode!
As mentioned in today’s episode, awards season is upon us and we at Cubscast would like to honor those that have operated the best Cubs-related websites in 2007. The aptly named “Best Cubs Website Awards” (or “The Strodes” for short) will be broadcast in a special episode on Monday February 25.
We need to know what you consider to be the best Cubs websites — and we’re taking nominations in each of the following categories:
Best Cubs Blog – Individual Author
Best Cubs Blog – Multiple Author
Best Cubs Site - Overall - Non-Blog
Best Cubs Rumor Site
Best Cubs Player Site
Best Cubs Humor Site
Best Cubs Merchandise/Memorabilia/Clothing Site
Excellence in Diction – Best Original Cubs-Related Word or Phrase
Lifetime Achievement Award
The sort-of-fine print:
Our goal in doing this is to draw attention to the best Cubs websites currently available. Cubscast is not eligible for any awards, please do not nominate this site. All other nominations will be considered by the Cubscast hosts, unless at our discretion a nominated website is deemed inappropriate, non-Cubs related, or deemed to contain or promote illegal or pornographic content. Anyone is eligible to nominate a site. All decisions regarding nominations and awards are final.
To participate, simply nominate your favorite Cubs website(s) today in the comments on this post. Comments will be closed at the end of the day on Monday February 18.
Award winners will be decided upon by the three Cubscast hosts and winners will be announced on Monday February 25, 2008. Good luck!

Let me nominate Bleed Cubbie Blue, Al Yellon’s definitive site for Cubs fans at http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com, featuring daily recaps, great interest stories, ranking players and events, and conversation and competition with other Cub fans as well as fans of Cub opponents…
This would probably be a good nominee for the following categories, at the very least:
Best Blog - Individual Author
Best Rumor Site
Nathan January 28th at 7:33 pm
I think you should add a category of “future Best Cubs Site - Overall - Non-Blog” as I am planning to launch a new fan site http://www.allthingscubs.com sometime during spring training.
Lou January 28th at 8:04 pm
Hi Nathan,
Interesting thought, and though your comment brings several new category ideas to mind, we won’t be able to award a Strode for Best Future Site. The main reason is that the site you mentioned would be in direct competition with my friend’s idea for a “MySpace for Pets” website.
However, in all seriousness I hope allthingscubs is a front runner next year. Keep us in the loop when you launch!

I see there’s no award for “Worst Cubs Blog”. I’m not sure if this qualifies, because it’s technically called “Mailbag”, but I would like to nominate Carrie Muskat. Her answers don’t really, ever, answer any questions, she is constantly defensive, and short with her responses. It almost appears that she has disdain for us Cubs fans. It is entirely possible that she is either a White Sox, or Cardinal fan in disguise. I’ve never seen her in real life, and cannot confirm this theory, because I cannot see if she has a mullet from her picture.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Doug “Dougie” Decenzo. One of my favorite players growing up as a kid. He was a short guy with a lot of heart. And his most memorable moment was taking the mound when the Cubs had no pitchers left. That deserves the LAA.
Matt January 29th at 12:53 pm
The link for http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com above doesn’t work because the comma after com is included in the link. Otherwise, the site does exist and is good.
Lou January 29th at 1:15 pm
Thanks Matt, the link has been fixed.

Best Humor Site is bleedcubbieblue, but not for intentional humor. Yellon’s delusions of grandeur are far beyond anything Muskat can do.

Best Cubs blog: The Cub Reporter http://mvn.com/mlb-cubs/
Best new Cubs word: Cubbery:
To play so poorly or to lose in such an outrageous fashion that only the Chicago Cubs seem able to do.
Wow, my team just walked six straight batters then threw a wild pitch to blow a three run lead, then gave up a grand slam to lose. That is some real Cubbery!
or
That team’s Cubbery caused them to not score even though they had the bases loaded an no outs.

HIre Jim Essian is a great site - I especially love Uncle Lou’s Friday Roundup. I concur with Flem about the B126. I also enjoy Thunder Matt’s Saloon (thundermatt.com), and to a lesser degree, The Cub Reporter (mvn.com/mlb-cubs/).
Lou January 30th at 4:04 pm
A clarification: this thread is for nominations. Once a site has been nominated in a category, you don’t need to nominate it again. Duplicate nominations may be removed.
See the comments above for more info on which sites have already been nominated in each category. For info on how the awards are decided on, see the original post.
Bad Kermit January 30th at 4:48 pm
Lifetime Achievement Award: Andy Dolan, Desipio.com. He’s been making being a Cubs fan infinitely more tolerable for over 10 years.

I nominate “Bad News Cubs” (http://badnewscubs.wordpress.com/) for best blog - single author.
The proprietor of that site is so smart that even he isn’t sure how intelligent he really is. Almost….but not quite.

Orioles Hangout is the best Cubs page on the internet!

I would like to submit Tim Sheridan of cubsaz.com for the lifetime achievement award. Not sure how long his website has been going, I think 3 or 4 years, but he writes a great blog, takes really terrific photographs and videos. He’s been doing the Cubs spring PA Announcer for a long time, so I guess it’s a lifetime achievement for his website along with his PA stuff.
For Cubs spring training, there’s nothing more informative than this website. By the way, that was a good interview with Tim on Cubscast! Keep it up guys!
Mark W. February 18th at 9:54 am
Lifetime achievement has to go to Carrie Muskat — each week she answers the dumbest questions on earth, and she does it apparently without an editor. It’s time Cubs.com’s highly-touted prospect was rewarded for answering no less than 100 questions about Matt Murton.
Joe Aiello February 18th at 12:39 pm
