Top of the disastrous 6th just ended on Friday vs. the Cards. This is the sort of display that makes even the fiercest fans despair. When they play like this, I almost feel like I don't want them to make the playoffs, because they don't deserve it.
Argh!

PS: As I hit submit, the first two Cubs in the bottom half have meekly struck out. Much of this season in a nutshell.

I'm glad you mentioned the split series and then going two out of three, then one out of three. Instead of thinking it's bizarre and feeling upbeat about it, I find it incredibly frustrating. I think the angrier and edgier tone of the analysis in the podcast is well warranted. The Cubs won a couple in a row recently and I felt great until I looked at the standings and saw that they really hadn't made up any ground. Yes, it's great that the rest of the division is terrible, apparently, but if the Cubs can't play better than .500 ball, we won't have to worry about a division series sweep. I'm glad that A Ram is back, bummed that Geo just went on the DL (I'm writing this as the Friday game at home against the Cardinals is beginning) and ambivalent about Dempster not pitching for a month. All told, though, I'm not at all optimistic heading into the break that this ship is headed in the right direction. Keep up the great work with the 'cast! I never miss it.

I couldn't agree more! Patience and walks. If only we could call up the hitting coach from Iowa who has obviously had such an impact on these young guys. If we could do that and get a fresh perspective... oh wait... we did!
