Tipping the Scales

by Lou - posted Friday, May 15th, 2009

As Sheps and I discussed in today’s episode (download mp3), the feel-good story so far of 2009 is obviously the emergence of Bobby Scales for the Cubs. Scales’ 4 RBIs yesterday combined with the other clutch hitting and solid performance from Dempster made that game my favorite to watch so far this season.

Bobby Scales, Major Leaguer

Before the game, Lou Piniella gave Mr. Scales what could be considered an honor for a major leaguer — adding “ie” to his last name when referring to him — “Scalesie.”

I think we can do the new Cubs utility man one better than Scalesie. Here is a guided tour of some potential nicknames for Bobby Scales:

No BS (too risque even for a stolen base threat?)

Bobby Ska (not sure why this made the list)

Robert The Juice (history buffs, any takers?)

The Reptile (now we’re getting somewhere)

The Gator (he went to Michigan, not Florida)

Bobby Boa (YES. Note this is derived from another Bobby’s nickname)

Let us know what you think by adding a comment. Any of these potential nicknames stand out to you? Want to throw any new ones into the mix?

Go Cubs!
